Reflection for SIE2016 Effective Communication

Through this module, it has taught me the importance of essential communication and writing skills that is applicable for the rest of my life. The goal I have set for myself at the start of the module is to improve my writing and communication skills. In this module, I have realised that writing of reader response, purpose and problem statements have to be precise, clear and focused as I tend to go off-track from the main subject. Through much-needed guidance and advice from my peers and professor, I have honed my writing skills in terms of the correct usage of tense and grammar. Also, there are many useful website links shared by Professor Blackstone that aid me when performing the tasks given. Annotated Summary

In the article 'Elevated levels of iron in groundwater in Prey Veng province in Cambodia: a possible factor contributing to high iron stores in women', J Water Health (2015) discussed the health effects caused by 'elevated levels' of iron, arsenic and manganese found in groundwater and the method to improve on the water quality. According to J Water Health (2015), iron is a mineral necessary for the human body to perform the required functions like 'red blood cell reproduction'. At the same time, the article also mentioned that the few areas in Cambodia where high level of manganese, iron and arsenic that were discovered in groundwater is a public health concern. The article states that high levels of  manganese in drinking water could cause detrimental neurological effects in children. [Draft 3] Technical Report Background This report has been developed as a response to a Call For Proposals (CFP) to developing solutions for engineering problems.  According to World Health Organisation(WHO, 2019), safe and readily available water has always been one of the key goals globally. The article stated that the ‘United Nation(UN) General Assembly explicitly recognized the human right to water and sanitation’. This shows a huge emphasis had been placed on water quality. The consumption of water in Singapore is approximated 430 million gallons of water per day (The Straits Times, 2018). In the same article, it was stated that there are four sources of water supply in Singapore: local catchment water, imported water, NEWater and desalinated water; they each can only provide up to 10%, 60%, 30%, 25% of the water needs of the entire island country respectively.
